This one has me stumped--
I bought the "what is it" last spring,
thinking someone would come along and tell me it's original purpose,
but, so far, no one knows.
It's at least 3 feet long and handmade. . . .
I'd love to find out it's purpose--just out of curiosity. . . .
I've had kids guess, old timers guess, men, women--
but no one knows for sure.
Now, it's your turn. . . .

I would love to know too! My guess is probably the same one you have. Some sort of gathering tote.

Looks like a tip out container of some kind to me. Sits on a shelf and holds lightweight tools, like maybe paint brushes. The top handle doesn't look like it was intended for carrying but as a support bar for the structure.
Looking around the web, it seems these baskets are popular for holding everything from napkins to sewing supples to large seeds and balls of twine. They turned up on ebay all smooth and finished, little and cute. I'm guessing a largeer version would be in the same family. They came up in searches for 'slat basket rounded bottom' on google.
I say you're looking at it all wrong... You should stand it on end. It's a shelf!
(don't know really,but that's my guess!)

no clue girl, but I can see a lot of possibilities for it. =)

I have no clue on what it is, but I sure do like it!!
Neat! A finding for you for a million uses.
Very interesting! I don't know for sure, really haven't seen one before. But to me it looks like either a chicken feeder(!?) or a garden trug.
It does look like it has possiblities though! Please let us know what you end up using it for!
It doesn't look that old as a whole. Some of the slats look older than the oval ends and divider. The crossbar on top doesn't look old either. I'd think it was something made on the order of a trug or basket. The old tool boxes had flat bottoms and a sturdy handle.
nice post thanks for sharing i found your blog thrue other followers looking for to visit more blessings
