I'm Dreaming of a White......Picket Fence

We've had a couple of beautiful, sunny Spring days. . . .It's my favorite time of the year to be outside. . . .Perfect for doing yard work. . . .and to finish projects started. . . . .five years ago?

If there's one thing John and I do well, it's finding bargains with the best intentions to go straight home and put them to work. . . .but then getting side tracked on something else. . . .We have plenty of plans, good intentions. . . .not enough time. . . .

Our white picket fence was one of those projects.

We bought all the parts and pieces five years ago at Lowe's, when they put summer items on sale. . . .paid $3 per section. . . .They were really trying to get rid of them, weren't they?. . . .We were more than glad to take them off their hands. . . .

All winter long I reminded John that this would be the year for the fence. . . .no matter what got in the way. . . .He was all for it, since he wanted them out of the barn. . . .Well, the weather hasn't cooperated much. . . .Looked like we might have a couple of pretty days this week. . . .So, we dropped everything and started working on that already five year old fence. . . .The rooster finally had something to crow about!

After a day and a half, our fence was up!. . . .True, it's not white. . . .yet. . . .and the arch has to be added. . . .but what a difference it made to the rose garden. . . .We both love it. . . .

Now, I can fill it with all kinds of shabby garden decor. . . .which means a trip to the barn to check what's on hand. . . .I've put off visiting the barn this Spring. . . .There's at least ten more projects there--waiting to be done--I know. . . .

Well. . . .we'll get to them one day. . . .I think that's called  "JOB SECURITY?"

. . . from my farmhouse to yours. . .

The fence will be so pretty, can't wait to see the finished project!! I am guilty of finding bargains that have to wait for me too. Sometimes it may take a while to finally tackle a project, life gets in the way. If I only had as much time as I have imagination........

Oh I just love your new fence! It looks great and will be so pretty painted white. When we bought our house it had a white picket fence at the edge of the front lawn and one down the side. It was pretty rickety and a couple of years later we tore it out. :( I so wish we had looked after it and kept it there or at least kept some of the pickets so I'd have a 'project' to make out of them. Oh well. We have trees now. :d) Have a great weekend.

Ya gotta love picket fences. That is so cute around your house. When we lived in Ohio, hubby made me a picket fence and I painted it blue.

Lovely! Isn't there a greater satisfaction in completing a five your old project? Very liberating! Lol!
Your picket fence is perfect! Wish I had a bigger front yard so I could put on up and complete the cottage look. Maybe in the back yard.....
I hope there is more sun coming your way so you can get it painted!

Oh Dru, it's going to be a beauty! So much space for so much fun. I had that same fence around a corner garden at my previous home. When we moved here there was a partial cream colored vinyl fence running across our back. When we went to fence we had to do the same. I miss the white picket fence, but the rustic iron one we put around our rose garden is mighty sweet. Can't wait to see your fence when it's wearing it's new coat of white!

Your new fence looks just lovely! And I'm glad I'm not the only one who has the best intentions with projects...only to have them linger undone...so many projects - so little time! At least it's done now! Catherine (new follower)

Your new picket fence looks wonderful!

I do the same thing! I once bought some tile from Home Depot to tile my foyer. It took me two years to get around to it. When I opened the box almost half the tiles were broken! So I laid a mosaic but I'm always buying things in advance and then it takes me forever to get around to using them!

Well, we all have our five year old projects. I'm just so happy for you to finally have it up, esp. since it gives you more incentive to get out and enjoy this time of year while you garden. it looks so pretty!

who doesn't love a picket fence.... I always loved the old wood fences when I was young, especially when a blossom or two were peaking out at me, I always picked a few thinking they were meant to be mine & take them home to Mom~
Have a wonderful weekend,

Picket fences are one of the most popular types homeowners install. They are made with individual slats that have gaps between the pickets and are a couple of inches apart and prevent the fence from blocking the view while looking the same from either side. This is why they are often referred to as neighbor friendly fences.
